Honda's unique stepless hydrostatic transmission enables selection of either the forward or reverse mode and the speed to be increased or decreased with a single lever.

Honda's "Hydrostatic transmission" (Self-Propelled, Infinitely Variable Hydrostatic Transmission)-  allows infinite ground speed control for a comfortable level between 0 to 4 mph to match any mowing condition.  This technology allows you to walk at the most comfortable pace for you and still get an excellent optimal cut. Hydrostatic transmissions are on two models of the HRX series and on the Commercial self-propelled model.

SMART Drive™, a unique variable speed transmission (VST). Developed with an ergonomic design, SMART Drive™ allows the user to easily control the speed when resting his/her hands on the handlebars. The mower is truly self-propelled, and unlike many competitive models, the design does not require the operator to push the mower – it pulls itself forward.  On some HRR models

3-Speed Transmission: The Honda HRR TDA offers a rugged 3 speed, as one choice to manage its powerful GCV160 overhead cam (OHC) engine. Ground speed is 1.7 to 3.2 mph.

Developed for Honda, Xenoy® is used in everything from car bumpers to football helmets and is exclusive on Honda Lawnmowers. Honda uses it in the HRX line-up as the ultimate in durability. It is rust-free and comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty – just on the deck itself! Xenoy® is a registered trademark of General Electric Corporation. Because of the Xenoy deck the HRX is 28 percent more rigid than its predecessor for enhanced maneuverability and tighter blade/deck tolerances for more efficient cutting. The slightly longer deck length ensures excellent balance even when the bag is full.

Aluminum Deck:  Honda’s aluminum lawn mower decks feature a specially contoured shape for increased efficiency and lightness, so you can finish the job faster. Only available on the Honda Masters Series.

Cutting/Mowing System found on Honda are the Ultimate system for cutting lawns cleanly, smoothly and efficiently.  Two systems QuadraCut System and MicroCut Twin Blades system are available depending on model: Both use four cutting surfaces to cut grass into tiny pieces that quickly decompose and add nutrients to your lawn. This special design is only offered by Honda, and it produces finer clippings for: Superior Mulching: Finer clippings decompose quicker and fertilize your lawn. Superior Bagging: Finer clippings take up less volume, so the bag fills up less often.

.QuadraCut System - The twin-blade Honda QuadraCut System™ is exclusive to Honda.  Found on the HRR models.

MicroCut Twin Blades system- This special design is exclusive to Honda producing even finer cuts than the Quadra Cut System giving Ultimate in professional looking lawn mowing and at the same time you can now mow between 40 to 50% further than conventional bagging mowers before having to empty the bag. found on HRX and Commercial models. 

Versamow System™ Found exclusively on the HRX series mower the Honda

Honda's patented Versamow System™ mulches, bags or discharges clippings with no attachments or tools required. The convenient Clip Director control regulates how much is bagged or mulched

Versamow System™ has been designed to be a complete 4 in 1 mowing system delivering the ultimate in flexibility. It allows for maximum mowing performance and flexibility, affording the HRX user to select either the bagging or mulching configuration - or any combination of the two - by easily rotating the Versamow System's™ Clip Director.

Honda's simple Clip Director™ regulates how much is bagged or mulched. Its design maximizes the flow of grass clippings as well as minimizes the clogging of the opening to the bag chute.

The clip director is a lever located behind the engine cowling and allows the operator to:

- Mulch 100 percent of clippings
- Bag 100 percent of clippings
- Rear discharge
- Simultaneously mulch and bag or rear discharge in varying degrees through 10 separate settings

The system also offers a setting for leaf shredding where leaves are recirculated until they are small enough to pass through the Versamow opening and into the bag. All this can take place without a conventional mulch plug and the labor-intensive conversion associated with most mowers.

With the Versa System you have a 4-in-1 VersaMow™ System/Clip Director® requiring no additional tools or attachments.

Mulching or Grasscycling— cuts grass clippings into fine pieces that can help fertilize your lawn. No bagging of clippings is required. Leaving grass clippings on the lawn when you mow. This allows nutrients to return to the soil.
 

A Mulch Kit converts a side discharge or rear bagging lawn mower to a mulching lawn mower.

A Mulch Plug fits into the space where your lawn mower discharges the clippings into the bag. If you select to not bag, then you will need to use the mulch plug in order to mulch. (rear discharge models only)

Leaf Shredder: This is an optional attachment that makes easy work of Spring and Fall clean-up by chopping up the leaves as you mow. This is not an option on all models

Poly Wheels - Honda HRR wheels are manufactured in high-impact plastic with reinforcing ribs for increased strength and durability.

Rear Discharge lawn mowers channel the clippings to the bag in the rear of the lawn mower deck. Rear Bagger — collects clippings. A rear bag is preferable to a side bag for use around fences, trees and other obstacles.

Side Charge:  Side Discharge lawn mowers channel the clippings to a side discharge chute.

Side Discharge — clippings are dispersed back onto the lawn. Use if you have few obstacles to deal with or to cut high grass.

Rotation of the lawn mower blade is immediately stopped when the blade lever is released, and the mechanism propelling the lawn mower is stopped when the drive lever is released. Honda was the first company in the world to incorporate these mechanisms this lead the U.S. government to establish regulations that made these features mandatory. 

Roto-Stop® : There is no need to restart the engine every time you step away from the mower. This feature allows you to easily disengage the blade, but keeps the engine running. That way you can empty the bag, move debris or toys out of the way or drive over sidewalks without having to stop, and then restart, the engine.
